New Members Area » Ned advice on hauling a motorcycle
I am planning to haul my motorcycle to West Virginia this week in my pick-up truck and I need information on how to safely haul my bike without getting it damaged. So far, I’m planning to purchase tie downs and place two of them on each side of the handlebars and one will be placed on each side of the wheel area. Is this a good idea? Are tie downs strong enough to support a bike for a long distance drive? How has everyone else hauled his or her bike?
Sportster » Looking for a comfortable seat for a 2005 Sportster XL 1200C
I have a relative that bought a 2005 Sportster XL 1200C and is very happy with the bike, but the original seats that came with it are very uncomfortable for someone who is small with a bad back. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a comfortable after market seat for someone who is thin? Possibly studs with concho’s would be a great asset or a nice leather fringe. Would also like matching pads for the sissy bar. Any input on a good brand or style would be appreciated. I was thinking of suggesting mustang seats. Does anyone have them now? Are they comfortable?
Maintenance » How to fix a crack in the exhaust?
To repair the crack in your exhaust, my suggestion is to buy some JB weld, that you can get at any department store or automotive store for about $5 dollars. Depending on where you live, if the humidity is high outside, it will take longer to cure. When putting the solution on make sure you use thin applications. When you put several thin applications, it seems to work better than one thick lump. Overall, JB weld should work good. I used it in the past on my Ford exhaust manifold that had a nickle size hole and it worked perfect.
Harley Chat » Looking for information on HOG membership
I’ve been a HOG member for several years now. In my opinion, you get what you put into it. One of the benefits is the free towing service. It comes in handy on those days when your motorcycle breaks down. There are many other benefits with the organization. If you decide to go to the HOG rallies, there are always hospitality tents that offer free drinks and other stuff for their members. In addition, during the 100-year anniversary in Atlanta, the first day was devoted for HOG members only and they had some cool events and special gifts for HOG members. There are also Hog Rallies in each state every year that you can attend and several charity events, rides, etc. I have also met many wonderful people during these events, which have now become great friends of mine because of my association with HOG. So in a sense, being a member of HOG has been great for me and I would recommend others to give it a try.
Harley Chat » Harley Davidson to cut jobs?

I just heard that Harley Davidson will cut 5,400 jobs as a result of falling sales.  I was very surprise to hear this.  I thought more people were interested in riding motorcycles, especially with the steady increase in gas prices.  In addition, those who would choose to ride a motorcycle would decide to ride a Harley because of its tough motorcycle image and mentality.  Are any other people as surprise as I was to hear this news? Do you think Harley is making a good decision to cut jobs?

Harley Chat » Advice for purchasing motorcycle insurance

I just recently purchased a motorcycle and I need information on what to look for when purchasing insurance. Some people have told me that I should consider getting insurance form a company that specializes in motorcycle insurance, because they offer specialized coverages that are designed for motorcycles. Is anyone currently insured with an insurance company that specializes in motorcycles? When meeting with an insurance agent, is there anything I should ask when getting coverage? Any information on this topic is appreciated

Harley Chat » Why doesn't Harley Davidson make cars too?

I think it’s just a matter of time that Harley starts making cars. Honda, Suzuki, and BMW make motorcycles and cars. In fact, if Harley Davidson wants to increase their profit margin they need to expand their business. All major companies do this all the time. Just look at Wal-Mart. In the beginning they focused their business on selling household products. Today they expanded their market to include selling food, prescription drugs, and gas. If you want to stay marketable and profitable, you must look at your competitors, see what they are doing, and be better then them. That’s what makes a company successful.

Dyna Glide » Oil loss on Dyna

I have a 2005 Dyna Low Rider. Since the day I bought it, I have to put in a quart of oil every 1000 to 1500 miles, depending on how hard I’m driving it. Is this normal for a Low Rider? Does anyone here have the same problem? I’ve noticed there is a lot of oil in the pipes and air filter. I always put in synthetic oil for about $10.00 a quart, which adds up quickly over time. Any suggestions to this problem?
