What is causing the rise in motorcycle accidents?

I've been reading a lot about the rise in motorcycle accidents nation wide.  It appears to be the result of more people riding motorcycles because of the high gas prices, but there must be other factors involved.  Right?  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Yes, many people are driving motorcycles these days.  However, another important reason why there are more accidents is because many of these drivers are inexperienced.  They underestimate the speed of their bike and are over confident of their skills.  It takes time to be an experienced driver, which many don't understand.

Another problem I see is many people ride bikes that are too big for their frame.  People are suppose to be riding bikes that allow them to firmly place their two feet on the ground.  I also see a lot of people not wearing proper riding gear, such as helmet, leather pants, chaps, gloves, or sturdy boots.  If your going to ride a motorcycle, you should make it a necessity to protect your self at all times.

Personally I think it is because there are a lot more idiots driving cars, trucks, and suvs.
